The Magic Quilt is a delightful and engaging children’s picture book written in easy-to-read rhyme. It tells the story of Toby and his adventures with his magic patchwork quilt. Toby adores his quilt and loves playing with it. His quilt also helps to soothe him when he is feeling sad and it is during these times that he discovers its hidden magic powers! The colourful illustrations and messages of discovery, bravery and magic appeal to children of all ages.
I have always dreamed of being a writer and have had my head buried in a book since I was a child. I spent my early childhood in New Zealand, my teenage years in Australia and my early adult years in the UK before settling back in Australia to raise my family. The idea for The Magic Quilt came to me one day as I watched my boys play with the patchwork quilts I made for them when I took up sewing a few years ago. I love inspiring others to learn the art of sewing and feel very lucky to be able to combine two of my favourite things, books and sewing.
The illustrator of The Magic Quilt, Glenn, is my dad. He is a talented artist who has been sketching and painting for as long as I can remember. He was thrown out of his comfort zone when I asked him to illustrate The Magic Quilt but we are both so proud of the end result and loved working on it together. Dad is from New Zealand where he worked as a commercial artist in advertising before we settled in Australia. He has worked in printing, graphic art and web design and now runs his own art studio.
